About this activity
This trip is perfect for those who want a self-drive option. Drive south along the spectacular Icefields Parkway and approximately 40 km to the put in location on the Sunwapta River. The journey along the Icefields Parkway offers stunning vistas of the Rocky Mountains and great opportunities to see some of the local wildlife. Once at the put in location, you'll change into your wetsuit as your guides prepare the boats and equipment.

Your safety is always the main concern so prior to departure on the river, your guides will provide a safety talk. All guides are trained in First Aid, CPR and are federally licensed. They are committed to sharing incredible white water rafting experiences with you and your family

The Sunwapta River emerges from the Columbia Icefield and offers an exciting combination of fast, fun rapids, incredible scenery and abundant wildlife. You'll raft very close to the headwaters of this silt-laden river. Enjoy an hour and a half of splashes and breathtaking rocky mountain scenery. The magnificent scenery of the Canadian Rockies and Jasper National Park surrounds you while you raft. Look for wildlife along the river banks or simply enjoy the lively white water rapids. After your excitement on the water, it’s back on the bus to change into your dry clothes.

The Sunwapta River is as fun in the rain as it is in the sun because you’re going to get wet regardless. Your local trip operator will provide all the gear and warm clothes you need, including a wetsuit, booties, paddle jacket, life jacket and helmet as well as fleece tops and neoprene gloves for those really chilly days. A towel, dry set of clothes, a snack and water may be left on the bus for after your trip. Wear your shorts or a bathing suit to wear under your wetsuit. It is not recommended you bring valuables along. Your driver will be taking photos at several locations along the river so there is no need for your camera or phone on the river. Pictures will be ready for purchase on a memory stick at the end of your adventure.

We did the the Sunwapta River rafting trip, class 3 rapids. It was exhilarating, our guide was Karleigh, she was experienced and directed us to row when we needed to, we felt very safe. We got wet and it was not a constant row, which was nice, as we took in the beautiful scenery along the way. The water is very cold and the rapids are challenging but not something that is difficult when you have 6 people rowing. We never did this before, and no experience is required. This tour is a very good introductory to white water rafting !!! Loved it and would definitely do it again !!! Miss the mountains already !!!

Had an awesome trip. Highly organised, good focus on safety whilst ensuring it remained exciting. We had a great time. Jeffery led our boat, he was clearly very experienced and knowledgeable but ensured it remained fun and chasing the best waves. Would highly recommend.
