Jericho and Bethlehem tour from Jerusalem
Start your tour from your hotel in Tel Aviv, where you will be collected by a professional driver and venture on to the historical city of Jericho and the religous city of Bethlehem with a brief stop at the sea level marker, the lowest point on dry land.
On the tour you will drive down towards the Dead Sea passing the Inn of the Good Samaritan. Above Jericho you will be able to see Mt. Temptation where Jesus fasted for 40 nights. Jericho is over 11,000 years old and considered the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world. Archaeologists have discovered over 20 settlements in Jericho and have found artifacts that date back to the Bronze Age and the Stone Age. There are two ancient synagogues in Jericho that have very beautiful mosaics still intact.
Then travel to Bethlehem to the birthplace of Jesus and home to the Church of Nativity, with its original mosaic floor. Bethlehem is where the Christians make their pilgrimage to every year at Christmas. You will take a walk across Manger Square to the Church of Nativity and then you will see the beautiful original mosaic floor from the 4th century under the one that was constructed in the 6th century. Tour the Crusader Church dedicated to St. Catherine before you go down the grotto where the Hebrew bible was translated into Latin by St. Jerome. In Bethlehem you will pass the milk grotto and go to Shepherd's Fields. After a day full of history and sight-seeing you will be dropped off at your hotel.
