Jerusalem and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre tour
Jerusalem has been fought over for thousands of years and many battles have taken place there. The city is considered very holy because of three major religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. The Cenacle is on Mount Zion and is said to be the place that Jesus had his last supper. In the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, there is the Golgotha where Jesus was crucified.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was built in the 2nd Century A.D. on top of the cave where Jesus was buried. Renovations were only completed in 1997.
You will start your tour with a view of Jerusalem where you will see the Old City and the Temple Mount. Then you will drive along the Kidron Valley and see the view of the Mount of Olives, the ancient Jewish burial grounds, the Garden of Gethsemane, and the Church of all Nations. On Mount Zion is where you fill find the Tomb of David. From the Zion gate you will enter the Old City, past the Armenian Quarter to the excavated Byzantine Cardo. You will walk through the Jewish Quarter to the Western Wall.
Continue along the Via Delarosa to join the pilgrims who are following the Stations of the Cross until you get to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Going down the steps you will see the Catholic and Orthodox chapels, and the place of the crucifixion of Jesus. Descend to the Church of St. Helen and to the chapel of the Finding of the Cross. After all of this touring we will proceed to exit the Old City, and travel back to your hotel.
