Basketry Masterclass in Jervis Bay

Itinerary

This workshop takes place on August 2nd from 10am to 4pm.

We are pleased to bring you the wonderfully talented Lissa de Sailles from Beyond Basketry, an internationally renowned modern and traditional basketry and fibre artist.

You will start with a short bush walk to help you ease yourself into the day, get to know Lissa who will introduce you to the topic of the day, answer any questions you might have about what’s ahead and help you notice the beautiful rich and varied native and exotic plants that are suitable for weaving. We may even find materials to use for our projects or for a dye pot!

We will then come back indoors into a warm and cosy space complete with tea, coffee and fireplace! Lissa will demonstrate and teach you techniques such as looping, twining, and coiling. She will then assist you in how to combine those skills into practice to produce your own masterpieces independently. You might choose to make a basket or a two-dimensional piece on the day to display in your home as a lasting memento of this unique experience.
