About this activity
Depart downtown Juneau on a bus driven by your guide. Take in Juneau’s majestic surroundings on the short drive to Auke Bay. Admire the stunning mountains and glassy waters, and see fishermen haul in the day’s catch.

Board a jet boat and prepare to set out on Alaska’s waters. The naturalist guide will narrate your journey across blue waters, as you brace your camera for photo-worthy moments like humpbacks breaching into the clear air, pods of killer whales searching for prey and Steller sea lions taking in the sun. Kick back with onboard refreshments, including soft drinks, water, coffee and hot chocolate. Refuel with a favorite local snack of wild-caught Alaskan salmon spread on a bagel.

Enjoy the views through the provided binoculars as the captain steers you up Favorite Channel, Stephens Passage, Lynn Canal and Saginaw Channel. Due to the growing whale population in Juneau, you’re guaranteed to see some action on these waters. At the end of your 2-hour cruise, you’ll be transferred back to the departure point.

We used Viator to book this excursion while on a cruise to Alaska. The captain and tour guide were really good at their respective jobs. The ship was relatively small, making it more intimate than the larger vessels we saw going out. We saw many whales and learned a lot. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed this trip even though we only saw a few whales, mostly from a distance. Others on our cruise saw a lot more whales. This boat took us to a place where there were a lot of other boats, so I suspect at other times, there were more whales. The boat was adequate, but not very comfortable, Rather crowded.

We realized booking this that the tour guide only has so much power over the experience because of nature, so I kept the bar low going in. However, we were blessed with the weather clearing just in time for our trip out to see the whales. While passing one whale, they told us we were heading toward radio chatter about more whales. We lucked out again with a bubble feeding AND a sighting of a pod of orca whales...including a baby! We were told this was rare, so we couldn't have been anymore happy with the day. The cruise was wonderful and the bar went back up! They also provided food and drink...the salmon spread on the bagels was heavenly! Would recommend this experience....even if you don't get to see what we did.
