About this activity
This round-trip shuttle service allows you to take advantage of a quick and convenient way to travel between Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier. Pick-up and drop-off are located at the cruise ship terminal near the Goldbelt Mount Roberts Tramway.

With shuttles departing every 30 minutes (on most days, please check the schedule), you decide when to come and go. Take your time wandering the various trails around the glacier before taking a bus back to Juneau. Please note seats are first-come, first-serve.

During the 30-minute ride to Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, your driver provides insight into Juneau history, points out well-known sites and shares tips on how to explore the splendor of the glacier. On the way back, pick up suggestions on where to eat and drink in Juneau.

Your round-trip shuttle service will be confirmed instantly after making a booking. Note to cruise-ship passengers: Please provide your ship name, docking time, and disembarkation reboarding times.

I booked the Mendenhall Glacier shuttle service for our family of four so that we could easily access the Mendenhall Visitor Center and hiking trails during our recent visit to Juneau while on an Alaskan cruise. I'm not a fan of cruise-organized excursions and prefer to avoid the masses, (too)-slow execution, tedium, and higher prices of going through the cruise. This was easy to book via Viator and offered the benefit of cancellation (up to a day before I believe), should our plans have changed. The shuttle starts at 8 a.m. and runs throughout the day. Our two bus drivers were informative and enjoyable, and the short trip (20 mins?) went quickly. The shuttle let us off a short distance from the visitor center, which had a number of interesting displays, an informative movie, and live talks about the glacier from an on-site ranger. After viewing the visitor center (we probably spent the better part of an hour, but could have easily spent longer), we took advantage of some of the nearby trails and enjoyed some hiking. The shuttle met at an easy-to-find location under the Roberts' Tram. Depending upon where your ship docks, you may be very close (as was the mammoth RC Ovation of the Seas ship), or if like us on the RC Radiance of the Seas, it will be about a mile/mile and a half walk (or ship shuttle) to the tram meeting place. The walk was easy and pleasant so we opted for that rather than having to wait around for the ship shuttle (I think the ship shuttle was $5).

Drivers were great. Archie's maybe? Grayish black hair guy late 50's maybe. Hilarious. Site is awesome. Take the time to walk to falls. Bring water or your own container with you. They have a bottle filler and dont sell bottle water only containers.

This had to be there most disorganized bus trip I've ever seen. It's just a bus ride to the glacier! But was late both times and the number of people crammed into the bus was unsafe and a bit unfair for those who paid full price. Just use one of the many your companies on the dock. Not Juneau Tours.

Our day in Juneau happened to be the 4th of July and the streets shut down from 11:00am-1:30pm for the 4th of July parade. This meant that no tour buses, or any other vehicles, could arrive or depart during that time period. If the tour company had warned us about this, we would have planned an earlier departure and would have had more time to explore the glacier.

Round trip Mendenhall Glacier Shuttle Service was very good. Waiting time for shuttles in both directions was minimal. The driver nicely informs about the place and its history enroute. However buying the tickets directly from Juneau tours either up on arrival at Juneau or over phone before commencement of the cruise could have saved a few bucks. But no regrets.
