About this activity
Outfitted in a swimsuit, begin the journey from your hotel—if you’ve opted for round-trip transport—or meet your guide in the town of Kahului, where the Hana Highway begins. You’ll be driven to the entrance of the hiking area, which was selected for its heavy concentration of waterfalls. Your guide will lead you along streams to three or more of these breathtaking cascades, some more than 40-feet (12-meters) high. While many tourists flock to Hana Highway area for its scenic beauty, your local guide knows the best vantage points for appreciating the falls on your 2.5-mile (4-kilometer) hike.

The waterfalls are breathtaking from land, but they’re even better up close. Wade into any of the pools under the falls—depending on the season, some are calm enough to pass beneath. With advice from the guide, adventurous types can climb up to the nearby columnar basalt ledges and jump 10- to 15- feet (3- to 4.5-meters) into the water below. After exploring the waterfalls by both land and water, enjoy a healthy lunch of your selection of sandwiches, chips, fresh island fruit, cookies and water. Dry off from your time in the water before finishing your hike. A van will transport you back along the Hana Highway to your hotel.

The trail was not too challenging and we saw at least 3 waterfalls and were able to swim and jump into them. My guide George was very knowledgeable and took us on paths less traveled. My only critique is to beware of many bug bites! My legs were eaten alive by the end of the day so really consider wearing long trousers. I was told that the bugs weren’t bad out here and even put on some repellent just in case but still came out with bites all over. Otherwise beautiful sights and lots of fun swimming in the waterfalls

Sarah was great. Had so much knowledge about all things Hawaii and Maui. Narrated the entire drive to and from and all during the hike. Very sweet and kind

We went on this hike with HikeMaui and really liked our experience. The tour was on time when picking us up. The guide was very friendly and took her time to get to know us and engage with us. Once we got to the tour site we had any extra gear we may need provided to us. We were provided waters, backpacks, lunches, rain pouches as needed and bug spray. On the hike our guide pointed out many features of the rainforest including the plant life and the edibles there. We were taken to four different waterfalls where we could swim or perhaps jump into a pool for a little thrill. The hike was perhaps 2-3 miles and the terrain ranged from easy to moderate in my opinion. Some of the pools were a bit tougher because the rocks are so slick. My group consisted of a 50 year old male, two 12 year old gals, a 17 year old boy. I recommend this because it is a great way to see some Hawaii nature in a safe friendly way.
