About this activity
Your tour begins with pickup in the very early morning from hotels in Maui resort areas such as Wailea, Kaanapali, and Kapalua for the drive up to the summit of Haleakala inside Haleakala National Park (before starting the drive, enjoy coffee, juice, and snacks while listening to a safety briefing about your bike tour).

During the van ride to the top of the volcano, your tour guide tells you about the history of Haleakala, its geology, and the rare plants and animals found only on Maui. Upon arrival at the House of the Sun Visitor Center, you will be escorted to the rim of Haleakala Crater for a view into one of the world's largest dormant volcanoes. Watch the sunrise, and then head down to a level of 6,500 feet (1,981 meters) to begin your bike tour; you'll be fitted with a bicycle and helmet by your guide.

Pedal downhill, riding along switchbacks, through Haleakala Ranch, and past Kula. Continue through the towns of Makawao and Paia, and finally reach the Pacific coast at Paia Bay Beach Park.

Wonderful experience especially for having to meet at 3AM to drive up to the crater. Bring warm clothing (actual winter stuff) because this tour gets you up there early enough so you can get a good spot to view the sunrise. Gloves, hats, long pants are recommend. Very windy so bring a windbreaker too. Bike ride from the crater to the shore was spectacular, very well organized and tons of fun too. Highly recommend this excursion!!!

Amazing views and the tour guides were great. Really worth the early wake up to get there and get the great viewing point

Guides were great, scenery was awesome, unfortunately at the fault of no one but mother nature, we couldn't see the Sunrise due to the Vog from the other island but it was still really nice and chilly...burrrrr The ride down was super easy and didn't require much effort. I'd say if someone in your group has small hands or cannot operate an adult road bike that it's probably not a great option for them to come. We had someone on our tour that had issues the entire way down and it slowed the rest of the group down and required many stops not to mention there was one time where she literally almost flew over the side after losing control of the bike.

This is a great tour. The bikes are high quality -- heavy, with good breaks. Our drivers and guides went out of their way to ensure that everyone was having a good time and staying safe. Make sure you dress warm for the morning. We stood on top of the mountain for over an hour in high 30 degree weather with wind in July. They give you a jacket, but if you're otherwise dressed for Hawaii, it is not enough. I'd bring a second coat and pants and maybe a blanket or two. During the ride down, our guide stopped and found a chameleon for us to take pictures with. One of the highlights of my time in Maui.

Tamara, our driver, and Alvin, our lead bike and guide, were great. They had the utmost concern for our safety, offered an abundance of information, very supportive, enthusiastic, and made the whole experience fun.
