The gulf of Navarino

The route starts right next to the bay. The first half hour you will walk the coast line of the lagoon and then for the next 15 minutes you will climb up the easy slope of the sand dunes. Right after the up hill part you will meet the mythical Nestor's cave. A small brake will take part before the last try to the top. 10 to 15 minutes after the cave you will have the opportunity to stand at the top of the hill and observe the southernmost station of migratory birds between Europe and Africa, the Gialova lagoon. A multitude of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish live there such as herons, kestrels, aegean seagulls, flamingos, ospreys, royal eagles and other migratory and endemic birds. Prominent among them is the African Chameleon, which is threatened by extinction.

At the top after about an hour you will have the chance to admire the outstanding view of the whole area of the gulf, including Voidokilia beach, Gialova lagoon, the city of Pylos and the Ionian sea by learning the local history from 425 BC to today.

Fruits and snacks will be served to everybody and many photos will be taken. After the creative time on the top of the hill your guide will give you all of his effort for going downhill straight to the beach for swimming. After few dives you will be driven 10 minutes away by car to the tavern.
