Private Kauai North Shore Tour

1 day
Private
About this activity
Departing Lihue by private minivan, listen to your guide’s narration about Kauai's history, culture and the natural sights that make up the beautiful Garden Isle. The benefit of a private tour is that information is tailored to your interests, and you can ask any questions you may have.

Make your first stop at Wailua Falls, made famous in the opening credits of the TV show Fantasy Island. Snap photos of the double cascade, which drops over 100 feet into the stream below, before continuing on to another stunner: Opaeka’a Falls.

Located in Wailua River State Park, this 151-foot twin waterfall flows over basalt into a hidden pool. From the Wailua River Overlook, your private guide will point out a re-created ancient Hawaiian village below, used as a set in the movie Outbreak.

For your next stop, you have a choice between the beautiful Smith's Tropical Paradise gardens or the Kauai HIndu Temple and monastery. Then, you’re driven through Kapaa Town, passing by 100-year-old coconut trees on the way north. Hop out of the van to view the Anahola Mountains, looking for formations that resemble a gorilla, a turtle, a hippo and an elephant.

We stop to see a beautiful secluded beach as we head further north. Next stop is the Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge and Lighthouse. From this cliffside vista point, you can observe seabirds and maybe even get an up-close look at the endangered Nene goose, the Hawaiian state bird. Keep your eyes open for humpback whales, too, during their migration from mid-December to mid-May.

On a drive through the historical sugar plantation town of Kilauea, note the buildings made from stones taken from the sugar fields. Then head to Hanalei Town for lunch with options for every taste. (own expense). After lunch we visit Hanalei Bay where we take a stroll on Hanalei Pier for more breathtaking mountain and waterfall views.

Next we stop for a picture of the historic Waioli Mission Church and take in the views from the Hanalei Valley Lookout. From here we head back to Lihue and along the way we can stop for the best shave on the island or enjoy delicious pure fruit frosties at Banana Joe's Fruit stand. Your memories of this special day will last a lifetime!

Fantastic tour! Very exterienced guide and we had the day to leisurely stop and take our time! Perfect way to see some places on the island that you would not be able to find otherwise! Highly recommend!

Our tour guide provided a wonderful day for us. We were able to experience highlights of the island, learn history and have great conversation. We stopped for a nice lunch mid way through our trip which was very enjoyable. I'm glad we made the decision to book the tour otherwise we would have missed some beautiful sites. P.S. She's a good photographer too!

Very comfortable tour in a clean, air conditioned van with plenty of stops for pictures and exploring. We scheduled this tour for the first day of our vacation, which worked out great because it gave us a really good variety of siteseeing. Our guide was very knowledgeable.

Elena was a wonderful tour guide! Since it was a private tour, she could customize the places we went according to our preferences. We had a fantastic day seeing so many beautiful places! I recommend this tour to anyone who wants a good overview of the island. We went on the northern route, but if weather is rainy there, our tour guide was prepared to take us on the southern route and out to see Waimea Canyon etc. Highly recommend this tour!!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. John was excellent - very knowledgeable about everything. We were the only people on the tour and when John picked us up he went over what we would see in this tour, which is the south side of the island or the other tour that covers the north side. We asked which one he would recommend and he suggested the north side. We saw so many things and were lucky enough to see a Monk seal, sea turtles and several wild pigs. We would recommend this to everyone.
