About this activity
Meet your guide at the prearranged location, then enjoy a leisurely stroll to the foothills of the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Acropolis of Athens, an ancient citadel and one of the world’s most revealing archaeological sites.

Head for the south slope of the acropolis to avoid the main crowds, then pay your entrance fee and make your way inside to see the bounty of ancient treasures that await. Along the way, visit the Theatre of Dionysus, a 5th-century amphitheater that is often cited as the birthplace of the performing arts. Hear about its history from your guide and imagine it filled with Ancient Greek theatergoers. You’ll also stop at Dionysus Sanctuary, a site dedicated to the Greek god of wine and fertility who was also the patron god of the Greek stage.

Inside the acropolis, get up close to important sights such as Propylaea gateway, Erechtheion, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Parthenon, a former temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. Pause for photos by these fascinating ruins and learn all about their history and historical importance from your guide.

When you reach the summit of the sacred hill, be awed by the sweeping panoramas of Athens below. Learn about the excavation details and gain further insight into the citadel’s ruins. You’ll also hear about surrounding monuments such as Mars Hill, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the ancient agora, once the heart of ancient Athens.

Continue on to the New Acropolis Museum, which has been ranked one of the top five museums in the world. Follow your guide on a tour of its highlights, which include impressive collections of statues and relics, as well as the Gallery of the Slopes of the Acropolis, where glass floors reveal archaeological excavation sites.

After approximately 1.5 hours, your tour concludes inside the museum, leaving you free to explore its exhibits further, should you wish.

My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour from Stavrula (Stevie) - her interpretations of the classic myths and legends, her background in archeology and her experience giving tours was all evident. I would highly recommend this half-day tour of the Acropolis and surrounding area, and the gorgeous Acropolis museum.

There was a bit of confusion in the beginning at the yogurt place we met at with assigning guides. They were missing for a few minutes. We finally got started to Acropolis and the guide took a lot of time to stop and explain things. It was too long for each stop, like 10 minutes. If you want a ton of information maybe you will like this. It was very crowded at the top so when we finally made it, we had a short time up here before she told us we had to meet her at the museum entrance in 15 minutes. We had no lunch break (he tour started at 11:30 and ended at 3:30, so no time to eat. Museum is very nice and modern.

Loved Stieve! She was very good and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the tour and learned a lot. It was hot out so wear a hat, bring sunscreen, water, and good shoes. It is a lot of walking which was fine for my husband and I being 30 and in shape, but might be difficult for others. I would recommend!

Adonis did a great job of guiding the tour and making it very enjoyable. He was knowledgeable and helpful with information regarding the tour sights, as well as general Athenian life. Make sure your wear good shoes, as the there is some climbing, as well as slippery marble in some areas.

The Skip the Line Acropolis and Acropolis Museum Tour was superb. Monuments and museums can be overwhelming, but our guide pointed out the most significant items and explained their context and meaning. The organization of the tour was excellent. Our guide Dorina was enormously smart and passionate and did a wonderful job of sharing her knowledge. Don’t waste time standing in the ticket line when you can already be on the Acropolis with a well-informed guide.

We had Annie (Anna) as our guide. She was amazing. She gave such great information about the acropolis and museum as well as other pop culture/historical/ other stories. She went at a great pace and the hike up the acropolis didn’t seem so bad on a hot summer day! Lots of stops for shadow, photos, and stories! Highly recommend this tour and if you have Annie as your guide it will be even better!

Would defn recommend this. It gives you a lot of perspective. Starts at the museum and then you up to the acropolis. Stieve was very informative! The only issue was the group became much larger when we went to the acropolis. Still worth it though.

If I would have known the total price I wouldn’t have booked this tour. And they probably know that, so that is why they charge you more for tickets when you get there. I will say the guide was very nice and knowledgeable but this tour is not worth 49 euros per person for just the guide. That is the most expensive tour I have been on, when you calculate a group of 10-15 at 49 euros just for the guide that is minimum 500 euros. The Vatican was expensive but the guide portion was about 30 per person. With the total fee listed on the site at 49 euros your would think 25 goes towards tickets and 24 for guide. But nope, you have to pay an additional 25 euros for tickets when you arrive which makes your total 79 euros per person. They should charge 79 online that way it is transparent, but I bet less people would book it and just book a skip the line pass for 29 euros.... look for other tours that include tickets, keeping in mind tickets for both are only 25 euros (20 for acropolis and 5 for museum) or just pay for skip the line.
