Stop At: Plateia Syntagmatos, Athens, Attica

We will start from Syntagma/Constitution square, which is fundamentally connected with the first official Greek Constitution and the political developments in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Stop At: National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, Attica

Our tour of the neoclassical Athenian trilogy begins in the forecourt of Athens University, the first of the three buildings to be constructed, in 1864, by the Danish architect Christian Hansen and the one that gave its name to one of the busiest streets in the city center, Panepistimiou (University street).

The National Library, created by Theophil Hansen in order to complement the Academy on the far side of the University, has been housed here since 1903 with a mission to preserve Hellenic intellectual heritage.

We cross the Stoa Orfeos/ Orfeus Gallery and then turn left into Stadiou street towards Klathmonos square and the Museum of the City of Athens, the first royal residence for the first royal couple in Modern Greek history in 1836.

Walking up towards Syntagma square, we will visit the Palia Vouli/Old Parliament building, our last stop at Kolokotroni square, where stands the imposing statute of Theodoros Kolokotronis, one of the most distinguished leaders of the Greek Revolution against the Ottoman Turks
