Stop At: Pnyx, Philopappos Hill, Athens Greece

• Go through the history and mythology of Athens, from the Mycenaean kings to Pericles and to the end of Democracy, through joyful interplay activities.
• Become an ancient Athenian discussing and voting on the city’s matters, as the Assembly did, 2500 years ago!
• Discover your speech and argument talents on the footsteps of the great orators such as Lysias, Isokratis, Lykourgos, and Demosthenes.
• Immerse yourself in the bright and dark sides of the Athenian democracy era, beyond history and school books.
• Enjoy the idyllic, peaceful landscape and the astonishing view of Philopappos hill, and take impressive photos with the Acropolis rock background.

Our experience will begin right after we meet and select our ancient Greek names that we will use during the workshop. Then we will walk uphill for about 300m until we arrive at the archeological site of Pnyx (free entrance). We will take our position under shaded olive & pine trees, right next to the carved steps where the Athenians spoke and voted during the Assembly. Our expert facilitator will start with a short introduction and outline the workshop’s rules. You will interactively discuss about the Myths, the historical facts, the great personalities, the everyday life, the social life, the art, the economy and the religion of the Athenians comparing their stories with the present. You will learn in detail how the Athenian democracy was born, and performed during the Golden age, and practice it yourself by speaking and voting on major city matters. You will learn how the great orators affected the public opinion, through specific paradigms. You will understand how war changed the Athenian political life but also their art, while reading aloud parts of ancient comedies and tragedies. Then, the ancient will meet the modern, as you will juxtapose the ancient paradigm with the modern life, by exchanging opinions, beliefs, experiences and views same way the ancient Greeks did. A productive and joyful way to learn all about classical Athens, and develop your critical thought and self-reflection. Our professional expert will guide you through the whole process, reassuring that everyone is equally involved. All participants will receive a commemorative. Our workshop will last 3 hours approximately, including a short break for sharing snacks based on the ancient Greek diet, and time for photos.
