Meteora & Delphi. Two legendary sites from Ancient Greece! But also, the springs of ACHERON river with the amazing light clear blue water known worldwide for its mythological contents! The first two destinations are "touristy" but you will still experience "real Greece" if you follow the foot steps of your driver/guide. Acheron=Greece!
DAY 1: Athens – Kalabaka – METEORA
>> Meet your driver/guide and hop on your private vehicle from your location without wasting time to pick up unknown people. Begin the drive towards the north area of Athens, where you will arrive at Meteora in 3.5 hours without unnecessary touristy stops. This Unesco site is home to more than 20 rock monasteries. Visit two (maybe 3) of the incredible monasteries depending on the day of your visit. Originally occupied by 11th-century hermits, the monasteries later became hiding places for monks when the Roman Empire started to fall. The monasteries you may visit are subject to change depending on your day of visit (different opening days). The monasteries to be visited can include the Grand Meteora Monastery and Moni Stefanou
or Moni Varlaam. In the evening, explore the bustling but not touristy Trikala town on your own, relaxing over dinner, after you've been briefed properly!
DAY 2: Metsovo - ACHERON RIVER - Nafpaktos
>> Enjoy breakfast in your hotel, and then start a ride towards the west coast of central Greece through the green landscape. After a quick stretching stop at the beautiful mountain town of Metsovo you'll arrive at the main destination of the day; the "gates of hell" or Acheron or Styx river springs. This is where Achilles’ Mum dipped him under the water to give him (not immortality) but invulnerability. Unfortunately she covered his heel where she was holding him to dip him.
Acheron river combines, in a fascinating way, an area of outstanding natural beauty and the myth. The myth says that in order to cross the River Styx and reach Hades (underworld), a dead person must pay a fee to the ferryman, Charon, to take the dead across ... the gates of hell. Get ready to explore in and/or out of the river, but only as much as your physical condition allows.
DAY 3: Galaxidi - DELPHI - HOSIOS LOUKAS - Athens
>> Following the beautiful coastline of the Corinthian Gulf enjoy a stop at Galaxidi town before heading to the famous Delphi and its Oracle. Explore the classic treasures, theater, the museum and the ancient ruins. Visit the 2nd site with "Athina Pronaia temple". Next,a stop at the scenic Arachova village (ski center) at the top of a cliff on the side of Mt Parnassus before enjoying yet another great lunch. Opt in for the extra visit to the beautiful Hosios Loukas monastery.
Continue the journey south towards Athens to be dropped-off directly at the hotel.
