Stop At: Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, 2-1-31 Yukinoshita, Kamakura 248-0005 Kanagawa Prefecture

This experience will be at the 50-years-old traditional folk house owned by the descendant of one of the oldest Kamakura-bori families, near Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.

Kamakura-bori is a style of carved lacquer ware that began in the 1200s in Kamakura. The master will talk about the history, styles and making of Kamakura-bori. 

After the lecture, you will make your own chopsticks for your souvenirs from Japan. If you do not wish to finish the chopsticks with lacquer, you can just take them home. If you would like to finish the chopsticks with lacquer, we ask an additional 3500 yen and shipping fee at the class. Following the carving experience, there will be a tea time using the lacquerware. This is a rare chance to see museum-quality work up close.

The Fee Includes:

Guided tour of Kyukei Goto Gallery (Kamakura bori history talk, making of kamakura-bori ) (40 min.)

Kamakura-bori carving demonstration & expereince- (65 min. )

After tour Teatime with Mr. Goto with Kamakura-bori tableware (15 min)
