Itinerary

Day 1: Negombo - Kitulgala - Galle

Stop At: Adventure LK white water rafting kitulgala, ginigathena road Yatiberiya kitulgala, Kitulgala 71720, Sri Lanka
White-water rafting options range from a one-hour ride along the Kelani River at Kitulgala, an ideal spot for beginners, to the ‘experienced paddlers only’ routes down the rivers of Kotmale, Mahaweli and Kalu Ganga. Between the exhilarating patches of grade 3 and 4 rapids, enjoy calm sections where you float serenely down the river and take in the spectacular scenery of tea and rubber plantations and mountains covered in patches of rainforest – one moment you can hear nothing but the pounding water and the instructions of your guide, and the next only the soft fluttering of birdcall breaks the silence. Rafting mixes the ups and downs of rapids with calm sections perfect for looking at the tea and rubber plantations or mountains covered in jungle rainforest. In one section all you can hear is the pounding water rushing through the rapids and the cry of the guide’s instructions. In the next only the chirping birds break the silence.

Day 2: Galle - Negombo

Stop At: Galle Fort, Church Street, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka
The Sri Lankan city of Galle was founded by Portuguese explorers in the sixteenth century. In 1640, the Dutch moved in and began fortifying the town by constructing an 89-acre (36-hectare) fort on the town’s promontory, surrounded on three sides by the Bay of Galle. Today, the old town of Galle and its fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988, ranks among the best preserved European-built fortified cities in Southeast Asia. The fort remains so much more than a historical attraction. The town is very much still alive. The walled city still houses government buildings, businesses, museums, cafes, and shops. The narrow streets are filled with residents going about their business. The ramparts overlook the Indian Ocean and provide a popular viewing spot at sunrise.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Galle National Museum, Church St, Galle 80000 Sri Lanka
Housed in the oldest building within the Galle Fort perimeters, National Museum of Galle celebrates the history of Southern Sri Lanka, with an emphasis on its colonial past. Built in 1656, the museum building was first used as the commissariat store for the Dutch troops at the fort. Renovated and converted into a museum in 1986, the museum houses three galleries. The first gallery features the aspects of the ancient village life including instruments used in cottage industries like Dutch lace crafting bobbins, wood mask carving and the now dormant turtle shell jewellery manufacturing.
