Itinerary
The Elephant Care Relief Foundation is an ethical project caring solely for the welfare and well-being (mental and physical) of Sri Lanka's domesticated elephants. Their whole lives these creatures have suffered, through domestication, and through the tourist, labour and back-riding industries. We have created a safe haven for these animals, where they can live happy and secure in the fact that they don't have to be involved in that lifestyle ever again.
During your time at the ECRF you will aid us in the care of domesticated elephants. As we have the elephants' best interests at heart, we do everything we can to make sure they don't have to exert themselves in any way. The project is very relaxed, as we walk them through the rural village of Polambegoda, it is very slow with breaks so the elephants can eat. We then go to the primary food source, where volunteers can help us chop up leaves and tree's ready for the elephants to eat later. After this its a quick trip for lunch before walking down to the river where we meet the elephants ready for cleaning.
