Stop At: Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, Sri Dalada Veediya, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka

The crown jewel of the city is the famed Sri Dalada Maligawa, also known as the Temple of the Tooth. ‘Maligawa’ literally translates to palace, and the temple is part of the palace complex. The entire complex is over three centuries old at least, and has seen many a king’s rise and fall. It has seen bloody wars and peaceful reigns and is one of the most historical places still standing in the island.

Stop At: Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya Road, Peradeniya 20400 Sri Lanka

Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya is situated about 5.5 km to the west from the city of Kandy in the Central Province of Sri Lanka and attracts 2 million visitors annually. It is renowned for its collection of a variety of orchids. It includes more than 4000 species of plants, including of orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. Attached to it is the National Herbarium. The total area of the botanical garden is 147 acres (0.59 km2), at 460 meters above sea level, and with a 200-day annual rainfall. It is managed by the Division of National Botanic Gardens of the Department of Agriculture.

Kandy Lake is a dominating part of Kandy city, and you can`t miss it! The lake is charming and peaceful and it will be an definite favorite part of Kandy. In the middle of the lake is a small island used by the emperor`s personal harem. Later the British used it to store ammunition, and they were the ones who built the fortress style parapet around the area.

Stop At: The Kandyan Arts & Crafts Industrial Center, 835 839 Peradenyia Rd, Kandy 20000 Sri Lanka

This is apparently a must-do-experience in Kandy. It will be an intense, spectacular and energetic show, with both male and female dancers and drummers wearing colorful costumes and will be dancing ten different dances, including the famous “Devil” dances of the west coast.

Bahiravokanda vihara Buddha statue lies within few meters from Peradeniya is a huge concrete religious monument. It is one of the numerous things to be toured and experienced in Kandy. It will take about 20 minutes to reach the statue from the Police station of Peradeniya. Travelers enjoy the Buddha statue which is 88 feet in height with the amusement created by the statute.
