After lunch at a beautiful local restaurant you are fascinated by Sigiriya Rock, a granite outcrop rising from scrubland areas that transform into water gardens during the rainy season. Climb the metal steps to the rock top: home of a ruined fifth-century fortress. View the frescoes en route and explore the relics on the summit, the remnants of a royal citadel built by King Kassapa. Your last stop in the evening is Pidurangala. From its top you have a beautiful view on Sigiriya.
