Fo Guang Shan and Cheng Ching Lake
As one of the most venerated Buddhist sites in Taiwan, the Fo Guang Shan Buddhish Memorial Centre cannot be missed. You are greeted by a colossal Buddha statue upon climbing the stairs towards the centre. One of the most fascinating aspects of Fo Guang Shan is that it is home to a relic of Gautama Buddha, the founder of the Buddhist faith. On leaving the temple, the surrounding cluster of lively stalls selling souvenirs and scriptures is well worth a roam. After an afternoon at Fo Guang Shan, cool off by the Cheng Ching Lake, with scenic sights all around such as the chateau of one of Taiwan’s former presidents that looks over the waters, and Phu Quoc Island situated within the lake. Make sure to walk across the Bridge of Nine Turns to get breathtaking views of Cheng Ching Lake and its surroundings.
