Khokana, an ancient Newari village is in Lalitpur district. It is just 7-8 km away from Kathmandu. This village has its own culture. The community consists of the Newars in high amount who earn their livelihood from agriculture. The men working on the field are busy crushing seed. This village is famous for its temples, the temple in this area is known to the mother goddess, Shikali Mai. Bungamati is the home of the temple Machhindranath which is known as the patron of the valley. The Karya Binayak Temple is one of the most important temples in Nepal and is dedicated to Ganesha. The view is breathtaking from the temple as it is surrounded by trees and large bamboos being in the base of high hills.
The first destination is Bungamati which is a very wonder place. This drive will be one of the best drives you will ever have. First 10 to 15 minutes will be dusty but then you will love the drive. Looking at the scenic beauty of the hills and the farming done beside the roads anyone will be stunned.
Bunagamati is a small Newari village known for the temple Machhindranath which was destroyed in the earthquake. Not only the temple but also the houses of the peoples living in the area were destroyed which turned the lives of the villagers upside down. But the villagers have regained strength and are starting to rebuild the temple with the help of government. The village is really beautiful and the peoples here too. They make beautiful designs on wood. This work has been done by them science a long period of time. The next part is Karyabinayak which is also a place for social harmony, because many people come here in groups and have picnic. This place also has a temple which is dedicated to lord Ganesha. This is one of the most important temples of Nepal. About 5-10 minutes far from here lays Kokana. This place is full of clustered houses with a main road in between and small ponds beside the road. In the monsoon we can see all the peoples working in the farm growing paddy so monsoon is the best time and November is also a good time to visit.
