About this activity
Your guide will meet you at your hotel lobby with a private vehicle and drive to about 40 mins to reach Chobhar. Chobhar, a place for the peace seekers, is where you will surely have a good break from all the hustle and bustle. The village has a superb panoramic view of the whole valley with an astonishing 160 degree view of mountains line-up.
According to one of the legends, the Kathmandu valley was a lake surrounded by hills during the Pleistocene era. It is believed that Manjushree, a divine saint from China had come here for a pilgrimage and saw a huge lotus emanating a bright light at the centre of the lake. So she cut a deep gorge allowing the water to drain from the lake because she wanted to observe and worship the lotus. The base of the lake became the present Kathmandu valley and the gorge is called the Chobhar gorge now. Carved out of a hillside, the Chobhar gorge is the only outlet for all the waters of the valley.
There is a small but picturesque temple of Adinath on the top of the hill with a magnificent view of the snow-capped peaks. Just beyond the gorge is a temple of the lord Ganesh. The main image of the shrine is a massive rock, naturally carved.
After Chobhar, you'll be driven about 45 minutes to reach the Dakshinkali Temple. The Dakshinkali Temple is one of the most famous temples in Nepal. This temple is dedicated to Kali, the fearful form of Lord Shiva’s wife. Dakshin is known as south and Kali is derived from Hindu goddess Kali of the south. This Dakshinkali temple is located southwest part of the Kathmandu which is forty-five minutes drive by vehicle from Kathmandu. The sanctuary and its surroundings are dedicated to the goddess Kali, the deity who claims it two times a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays. So lots of devotees gather in a large mass especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays where they usually sacrifices cocks and male goats. The Dashain festival in October is a major festival here.
Enjoy your special Nepali lunch at a restaurant around the Dakshinkali Temple and drive to the Kritipur Village. The major attractions of Kirtipur Village are typical Newari culture and their lifestyle, Chilamchu Stupa and the temple of Bagh Bhairav, Uma Mahehwor Temple. Kirtipur also offers the great view of the Kathmandu valley.
After visiting Kritipur, you will be then transferred back to your hotel.
