About this activity
Day 1: Kathmandu Arrival

Airport pickup, hotel transfer and enjoy welcome dinner.

Day 2: Kathmandu sightseeing and trek preparation

Orientation & guided tour of 4 UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,550m) 7-8 hrs

We leave Kathmandu in the morning for Syabrubesi, a village which is also the starting point for treks into the Langtang valley. Our journey will be on a winding road through frequent switchbacks. Our trek ends with a descent into the small village of Syabrubesi.

Day 4: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,380m) 6 hrs

We begin our trek to Syabrubesi along the Langtang Khola. We ascend and descend simultaneously through oak and rhododendron forests. After crossing a bridge over the Langtang Khola, we ascend on a steep trail which lead us to the Lama Hotel.

Day 5: Trek to Mundu (3543m) via Langtang village 6-7 hrs

Ascend from Lama Hotel and enjoy the mountain landscape with abundant waterfalls. As we reach the green meadows of Ghoda Tabela, we begin to see the white peaks of the Langtang range. Our trail continues to climb up the widening valley, passing a few temporary settlements used by herders. We pass a Buddhist monastery before reaching the Langtang village.

Day 6: Mundu-Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m) 4-5 hrs

Start our journey to Kyangjin Gompa, a principal monastery of the region. Pass by water mills, prayer wheels, chortens, with sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them. We also pass by the largest mani wall in Nepal, made from stone with prayers written on them. After the short trek, explore the Buddhist shrine in Kyangjin Gompa and surrounding areas with the amazing views of the mountains.

Day 7: Acclimatization- Explore Tserko Ri (5000m) 7-8 hrs

We spend the whole day exploring Tserko Ri which will also help us acclimatize to the high altitude. The trail passes through yak pastures before ascending to Tserko Ri. The sunrise view from the top of Tserko Ri is extraordinary. We get back to Kyangjin Gompa and explore the beautiful monastery while enjoying views of the Himalayas, glaciers, birds and yaks.

Day 8: Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel: 6-7 hrs

Retrace to Lama Hotel. Pass through forests and beautiful Tamang villages. We also get to enjoy different view of the Himalayas that we had missed climbing up.

Day 9: Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi: 4-5 hrs

Retrace back to Syabrubesi.

Day 10: Syabrubesi-Kathmandu

  • Not wheelchair accessible
  • We will be accommodated in Yatri Suites & Spa or Hotel Moonlight or Similar in Kathmandu and teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 190. Himalayan Glacier will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, teahouses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations.
  • Breakfast will be served in Kathmandu whereas all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided during the trek. While trekking, we can enjoy Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests.
  • For Langtang Valley Trek, there will be one leader, assistant leader (4 trekkers: 1 assistant guide) and Sherpa porters for luggage carrying (2 trekkers: 1 porter). This arrangement ensures that even if anybody in the group gets sick or is unable to carry on, the trip can still go ahead as planned for the rest of the group. We can run the trek for groups of any size, but usually, it is a maximum of twelve people as we've found this to be the optimum size for a successful trip. If you would like to make a group booking for more than twelve people together, we can arrange this too.
  • You are likely to walk for 6-7 hours each day over steep hilly terrain on usually rough trails but no real extremes of weather. Moderate trails entail reaching up to 5500m with daily ascends of around 400-700m. You will also be facing high altitude air with low level of oxygen on some days and are therefore required to have a positive attitude and be physically fit. Previous hiking or camping experience is preferable.
  • Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best season for this trek. Although we can do the trekking during winter, the cold temperature might not be suitable for everyone.
  • Your safety is of paramount concern while traveling with Himalayan Glacier. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails travelling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.
  • Not recommended for travelers with back problems
  • Not recommended for pregnant travelers
  • No heart problems or other serious medical conditions
  • Most travelers can participate
  • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 12 travelers
