Stop At: Swayambhunath Temple, Swayamhu Circle Road, Kathmandu 44620 Nepal

This is the world’s famous Monkey Temple, known for its rhesus monkeys that like to perform all kinds of amazing antics. This Buddhist site is over 2000 years old and is situated on a high hill overlooking the beautiful Kathmandu Valley. It is a mixture of both Buddhist and Hindu temples and stupas, reflecting the unique synergy between the two religions in the Kathmandu Valley.

Stop At: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Kathmandu 44600 Nepal

This is where the kings of Nepal were crowned until 2001. Here the old royal palace still stands along with nearly 60 temples, reflecting both Hinduism and Buddhism. See erotic temple carvings, Nepal’s largest bell and a myriad of architecture covering three major ruling dynasties of Nepal. Also on the tour is a stop at the Kumari Palace, the home of the living goddess!

Kumari, or Kumari Devi, is a living goddess in Nepal. Kumari literally means virgin in Nepali and was the name of the goddess Durga as a child. Kumari Chowk lies middle of Kathmandu Durbar Square.

The city of Bhaktapur has been declared in its entirety a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located southeast of Kathmandu, there are two major temple areas. The tallest Hindu temple in Nepal is located here, dating back hundreds of years. There is also its own ancient royal palace with 55 exquisitely carved windows. Wander its streets to see traditional craftsmen doing traditional crafts. A truly amazing place.

Stop At: Changu Narayan, Bhaktapur Nepal

The least visited of all the UNESCO World Heritage Sites is a gem waiting to be discovered by the outside world! This village is a truly incredible place. You will observe Newari craftsmen doing traditional carvings as they have done for hundreds of years. The temple is the oldest Hindu temple in the Valley, dating back nearly 900 years.

Stop At: Pashupatinath Temple, Pashupati Nath Road, Kathmandu 44600 Nepal

This is not only the most sacred Hindu place in all of Nepal; it is a world pilgrimage site for Hindu around the world. There are nearly 500 temples that crowd both banks the holy Bagmati River. Here the faithful come to be cremated and have their ashes scattered on the sacred waters as it eventually joins the sacred Ganges River in India. Here you will see yogis as well.

Stop At: Boudhanath Stupa, Boudh Boudha, Kathmandu 44600 Nepal

This is the largest Buddhist stupa in Asia. Dating back centuries, this massive structure is incredible in both appearance as well as size. Tour the monastery as well as to spend time looking at various shops that reflect the culture of Tibetan Buddhism.

Stop At: Patan Royal Palace, Patan Durbar Square, Patan (Lalitpur) Nepal

Patan was once its own kingdom before the unification of Nepal in 1769. The Patan Durbar Square reflects the incredible architecture of the Malla Kings and the amazing Newari art. The Newari people were known for carving in stone as well as wood, and Patan’s Durbar Square reflects this breathtaking art. There is the old royal palace along with amazing temples, all in a very small space. Patan is definitely worth seeing!
