Your tour guide will lead you to one of the first universities in Russia, Kazan State University.

Kazan University, one of the oldest universities in Russia, was founded on November 17, 1804, when Emperor Alexander I signed the Affirmative Letter and the Charter about the creation of the Kazan Imperial University.The first students, enrolled in 1805, were graduates of the First Kazan Gymnasium – an autonomous affiliate of Moscow State University, under whose auspices Kazan University first operated.

The Old Tatar Quarter (“Staro-Tatarskaya Sloboda”) is the soul of the historical part of Kazan. With its streets preserved from the medieval period, this is considered to be the main area of the Tatar city culture. Dozens of monuments have found refuge on the shores of Lake Kaban and Bulak ducts, in the heart of the capital of Tatarstan.

Al-Marjani was one of the first two mosques built following the occupation of Kazan by the troops of Ivan the Terrible. The mosque has previously borne two other names: Yunusov (in honour of its local merchant patrons), and Efende (Seigniorial). Opened in 1771, it quickly became the Islamic heart of the city.

Your guide will lead you to Peter and Paul’s Cathedral to marvel at its distinctive grandeur design, and learn more about religion in Kazan.

In 1726 a cathedral bearing the name of the Apostles Peter and Paul was built on the spot where one made of wood had been constructed in the middle of the 16th century. People nicknamed the cathedral the Hanging Gardens of Kazan because of the large amount of stone-like plasterwork adorning its walls. This outstanding example of Baroque architecture was made thanks to merchant Ivan Mikhlyayev, whose house (now Kazan's oldest civil building) is located nearby.

Freedom Square is one of the main squares of the city. It is located in the historical center of Kazan in Vakhitovsky district. Previously, it was called Theatrical, a modern name exists since 1924.

Stop At: M. Dzhalil Tatar Academic State Opera and Ballet Theater, Svobody Sq., 2, Kazan 420111 Russia

You will see beautiful Opera and Ballet theatre.

The Djalil Opera and Ballet Tatar State Academic Theater opened in December 1938 with a performance of Zhiganov’s Runaway. Construction began in 1933, according to the design of architect N. Skvortsov. In 1948 I. Gaynutdinov worked out the facades and interior in a classical style with national elements. Its repertoire includes the works of Russian and international composers, featuring operas, ballets and musical comedies.
