About this activity
Tours usually start heading south for 8 miles to wildlife viewing and upon returning to town, proceed 10 miles north of town to the totem pole parks.

Start off with a 20-25 minute tour of the highlights of Ketchikan, visit creek street, salmon ladder, harris bridge, city park, indian town and more. Then proceed for 8 miles on one of the most scenic drives in the Pacific Northwest stopping in several sites including mountain point, looking for the ideal picture spot.

20-30 minutes will be spent at herring Cove for seasonal wildlife sights.

Starting in June the Wildlife is very active and includes: Salmon, American Bald Eagles, Seals, Dear, Whales and Bears (more present in July-September).

At guides discretion, occasional visits to a waterfall may occur.

Enjoy a 20 minute drive back to town.

A 10 mile drive north of town will lead to the Potlatch Park and Totem Bight State Park. Spend 45-50 minutes in area, starting at the Totem Pole carving center learn and see totem pole carving stories and techniques, explore more than 30 totem poles, antique cars and weapons and at the end choose a self guided tour of the State Park or visit local gift and book shop.Snacks are included in Park.

The return trip will pass by the Ketchikan Pulp Mill which after serving half a century as a huge economic motor for southeast's logging industry, closed it's operations in 1997.

Guide will offer a couple of options for ending tour at cruise ship of conveniently located stops in downtown for optional walking and exploration thru town
*Occasionally the tours may be reversed depending on logistics and proceed North first, leaving the second half of the tour for wildlife sighting. Vehicles may vary between shuttles, buses or trolley but will be continuous once started.

Great tour. Christopher our tour guide was excellent. One of the most informative guides I have had. Very knowledgeable and friendly. The only thing to improve on was where to pick up the tour once you were off the cruise ship. At first we could not find the meeting point.

Our tour guide was very well informed and friendly. We truly appreciated that he was a local and was readily able and willing to pass along his knowledge of the people of Ketchikan.

It was very unorganized, at first, but we finally boarded a large bus. I was under the impression that they had us in a van (group of 8) but it was fine. We had a great tour of totem poles, and Andrea, our guide, was very informative and knowledgeable. Andrea was a great driver and tour guide! Herring Cove was not what I expected - we saw bald eagles and some salmon in the stream but no bears or whales. We did stop at an amazing waterfall but it wasn't really worth $80 each, in my opinion. I'm glad that we went but I wouldn't recommend it.

Disappointing. Started off great with just us as a couple and a native guide through Potlatch Totem Park: many personal insights and great historical perspective, Tour operator decide to transfer us to another coach and guide, this is where things went wrong. Guide made an effort bu seemed distracted and in a hurry, but did a good job of attempting to view bears at turnaround. No stop at Sachman ("there it is" as we passed), no salmon ladder stop, no snacks/water. Tried to allow for early shoulder season bu when compared to other trips this fell well at the bottom due to the 2nd half un-guide.

First part of tour was to totem pole park ,It was interesting. Second part was a waste of time No scenic views or wildlife, just a waterfall that you had to climb over rocks to see and it was nothing to brag about suggest you pick another tour.

The day started slow with some interesting history of native life and totem poles. Our guide was fluid and knowledgeable and he kept us interested. Our excitement began when we witnessed the wildlife in action just on the side of the roads! Eagles, salmon and bears all together in the same place.

I feel it was a bit on the pricey side for no more than we did. It also felt very hurried and rushed.

For a dreary drizzly day we had a great tour. Our driver/guide Debbie K. was so knowledgeable on everything from the city tour to Potlatch Park. We stopped to see a great many sites and she had a lot of history on all of them. Thanks Debbie for a wonderful day.

Awful trolley tour. We had a first day on the job guide and an experienced guide accompanying her. The experienced guide did show us around the Totem pole park while the new one smoked by the trolley. We stopped in a parking lot to view a number of eagles perched near a stream and that was interesting. Suggestion: guides should memorize, practice and get tested on tour information then have a number of run-thrus on trolley to make sure customers will be satisfied. Spend your 80 elsewhere.
