About this activity
Take a break from sun and sand in Key West to visit the Harry S. Truman Little White House, where Truman stayed for 175 days of his presidency. The historic house was built in the Key West harbor in 1890 to serve as housing for naval officers. The first president to stay in the house was William Taft in 1912; Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton also visited.

Find out what happened here during the Spanish-American War and World War I. Thomas Edison lived in the house during the latter while he did research for the US Navy. Truman began visiting Key West in 1946, staying in the house during winters on a total of 11 visits, enough to earn the house the nickname Winter White House.

Guided tours of the house start every 20 minutes, and knowledgeable guides will introduce you to Truman and the politics of his time. By the end of your visit, you’ll have an appreciation for this historic site and its colorful history.

This was a great history lesson and lots of trivia about the facility and Key West. We really enjoyed the tour.

The Little White House is a delightful, informative place, especially if you are a history buff like me. The house is exactly as it was when President Truman spent working vacations there, and it's easy to transport yourself back in time to envision this era.

This is a fascinating experience. A lot of insight into Truman and broader American Presidential history. The house is very comfortable and there is a lot of original furniture. The only problem was that the ticket booth had no idea what to do with the confirmation number from viatour. We hadn't printed the vouchers because, of course, we did not have a printer. For our next trip we forwarded the vouchers in an email to the phone. That seems to be what they wanted.

The Truman Little White House is a lovingly maintained snapshot in time. Our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us lots of time to look over and read through lots of artifacts. Well worth the visit. We were fortunate that it was a cooler day when we were there because the house is not air conditioned.

This tour is bery interesting and surprising. We learned a lot about president Truman, and could really relate to why he so loved the island. Tthe house is much simpler and more casual than you would expect it to be!
