About this activity
You will be picked up from your hotel in Khajuraho and driven to the Eastern Cluster of Temples. About a half mile from the Western group of Temples is the Khajur Sagar (lake) and the old village of Khajuraho. The eastern group of temples is located around this lake and village. The Jain community during the Chandela rule lived on the eastern side of Khajuraho and a number of Jain temples from that period are here. Your guide will accompany you and explain the significance of each temple you visit.

Parsvanath temple is the oldest, largest and best known of the Jain temples. The temple is dedicated to the 23rd Tirthankara Parshvanatha of the Jain religion. It is believed to have been constructed between 950 to 970 AD. It has beautiful images of gods and goddesses.

Adinatha Temple is dedicated to Thirthankara Adinatha. It was constructed in 1075 AD. The image of Adinatha is made of black stone and is enshrined in the temple sanctum.

Ghantai temple, belonging to the Jain faith, is the only Jain temple that is not protected by any encircling wall, as is the case with all other Jain temples. The pillars of this temple are embellished with carved images of bells. Bells are called 'ghanta' in Hindi and hence the name Ghantai Temple.

The Javari Temple was constructed between 1075 to 1100 AD. This temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu was built in Nirandhar style.

The Vamana Temple was dedicated to 5th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Vamana. It was constructed between 1050 to 1075 AD.

The Hanuman Temple is situated on a platform in Khajuraho village. This temple is believed to have been constructed in 922 AD.

Lastly, the Brahma Temple is one of the three Hindu Temples in the Eastern group of temples in Khajuraho, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is the only temple built in granite here. It was constructed in 925 AD.

At the conclusion of your tour, you will be brought back to your hotel in Khajuraho.
