Stop At: Mezhyhirya Residence Museum, Ivana Franka St. 19, Novi Petrivtsi 07354 Ukraine
Your guide will wait for you in your hotel. After a half an hour ride to the Novi Petrivtsi village, your tour will start. If you want deeply feel the current situation in Ukraine, the residence of the former president Viktor Yanukovych in Mezhyhirya is one of the best places. You will learn specific aspects of his private life and see the excessive luxury and prosperity that leads to a losing one’s mind.
This huge territory is enclosing with a 6 meters fence. Furthermore, there is a VIP territory with another tall fence. You will go there and see plenty of perfectly cut trees and bushes, the open tennis court and the lake that never freezes with outlandish fish. You will be surprised how many exotic animals and birds live in this place. There is a large farm with peacocks, ostriches, and pheasants. You will also discover a building with the laboratory where the meal was tested before serving to the former president and his guests.
After this, you will move down towards the Dnieper River. There are some places that you may visit optionally, like the private fire station, harbor and exclusive training center for elite dogs. The private garage with old soviet cars that was transformed into the museum of retro cars is also interesting to see.
There are two buildings that will strike you - a health center and Honka -a huge wooden house that was the main residence of the V. Yanukovych and his mistress (optional visit). The health center has fashionable high-quality equipment like an expensive spa salon does. There is an oxygen camera, cryogenic sauna, and artificial salt cave, etc. there.
After a health center, you will move directly to the main residence through the underground tunnel. Above all, this house impresses with the wooden mosaic floor that includes 17 types of wood. The specific air filtering system provides so good filtration that the chandeliers that weren’t cleaned for two years and don’t have any dust.
You will need about 40 minutes to see all exclusive accessories and goods of this house, such as golden chandeliers, unique Swiss music box that costs about half a million dollars, and a piano from the Steinway & Sons company.
In the end of the trip to this “corruption museum”, the driver will bring you back to the hotel.

I definitely recommend this tour for anyone wishing to not only see a display of corruption at its worst but also to get insights into the man Viktor Yanukovich whose bumbling actions would spark the 2014 Europmaidan revolution. I booked the six hour tour and was picked up at my hostel by the tour guide. We spent the entire day at the estate and I got to see all the major sites from the mansion to the zoo, the dogs, the car collection, and the grounds. I found the tour guide to be very helpful and knowledgeable. He was able to answer all my questions. I would recommend doing this tour on the weekends when all sites are open the mansion and car collection are closed at the beginning of the week to get the most out of your visit.
