About this activity
Ko Samui, the second-largest island in Thailand, attracts travelers from all around the world. The island is full of waterfalls and splendid architectural accomplishments that will leave you speechless. The island is also known for its coconut groves and hilly rainforest region. The tour begins with hotel pick up in the morning, followed by a visit to Wai Plai Laem, a temple surrounded by water, which houses giant statues of Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy) and the Laughing Buddha. It was designed by Thailands most prominent artist, Phumdonming. Next is a visit to the Big Buddha Temple, locally known as Wat Phra Yai, located near a beach town called Big Buddha Beach. The temple houses a giant gold-painted statue of Buddha. This beautiful, major landmark has free entry. A few kilometers away is Chaweng Viewpoint, also known as Lat Ko Viewpoint, a panoramic masterpiece located between the Lamai and Chaweng beach. We recommend watching the sunrise over Chaweng Bay if you have time. Next visit the Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks. The Hin Ta (Grandfather) and Hin Yai (Grandmother) rock formations are a unique set of rocks, shaped like male and female genitalia which have created a local legend of tragedy and hope which attracts tourists from all over. After visiting the rocks, watch a monkey show from a performing arena where monkeys demonstrate unique tricks. One of the most interesting tricks involves monkeys harvesting coconuts. One of the most visited tourist attractions in the area is the Mummified Monk, a mummified body of the Thai monk, Luong Pordaeng who died in 1973, which sits in a meditative position and is displayed in a glass case. For the Thai people meditation is an act of reverence and reflection, an acceptance of the natural order of things. Later visit the Na Muang Waterfall. The beautiful waterfall flows down into a natural pool which is ideal for cooling off from the hot weather. Pick up some snacks, refreshments or souvenirs from the vendors here. The waterfall is the perfect place to relax after a morning of sightseeing. Nathon Town is Koh Samui's capital town which portrays typical Thai life. It is always busy with people wandering down the main street. This is a wonderful opportunity to absorb the Thai culture. You can include elephant trekking at an additional cost on this tour.
