Your day starts with a pick up from your hotel / Railway Station. Proceed towards Muziris for a guided city tour and explore the ancient port city that traded spices, precious stones, and silk to Egypt, Greece, and Rome etc. Get to know the enriched trade history of the region, a potpourri of various cultures.
Kick start a great sightseeing tour with a visit to the Palace Paliam Kovilakam. The Palace is a spectacular infusion of the Dutch and Kerala styles of architecture. "Paliathachan" is the title given to Karanavar (family head) of the noble family Paliam. Then, visit the Old synagogue of the Malabar Jews in Chennamangalam, followed by a visit to the Chendamangalam village organized by a local self help group named Kudumbasree.
You will be welcomed in a traditional style with drum demonstrations (Chenda mela ), jasmine garlands, and tender coconut water drink on arrival. Enjoy the beautiful visit to the Village, which is organized by Kudumbasree - a women self help group started in 1998 to encourage communal harmony and gender equality. The group also works on eradicating poverty by teaching women some basic skills like weaving, organic farming, and handicrafts. Enjoy a cooking demonstration before treating yourself to Sandhya - a traditional vegetarian meal served on banana leaves.
Visit the local Handloom weavers of the village, where weaving is a primary source of income for most of the families in the village. Get to know the locals, spend some time interacting with them and explore the village. Finally, you will accompanied to the Pattanam Museum by your guide. The Museum is the site of archaeological excavations which unearthed traces of the early Roman trade with India.
As your tour ends, you will be driven back to your Hotel / Railway Station.
