Pass By: Kerala Backwaters, India

Itinerary A : Backwaters by Houseboat & Fishing Nets

After pickup from Kochi Port transfer to Alleppey (approx 1 hour 45 minutes) to board your houseboat.On arrival check in and short motor boat transfer to the houseboat . Houseboat Cruise slowly through the backwaters and village areas to marvel at the lush vegetation, paddy fields, coconut palms and traditional wooden houseboats. There will be 3 staff members along with your guide who will ensure that your experience is relaxed and comfortable. 

Enjoy a lunch of Keralan cuisine lunch with rice, vegetable dishes, fish, chicken and more as you gently cruise. The houseboat cruise will for approx 2.00 hours and then you will disembark and transfer to Fort Kochi by air-conditioned coach. See and learn about the Chinese fishing nets which have dominated the coastline for more than 150 years.Later transfer to Cochin Port.

Itinerary C : Glimpse of Cochin 

We will pick you from Ships Berth and transfer to Mattancherry to visit the Dutch Palace built by the Portuguese, The palace is famous for its stunning murals portraying scenes from Hindu tales, such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Next door is the Jewish Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in South India.Also go for a short stroll along the Jew Street/Jew Town shops.

Later transfer to Fort Kochi for a short walking tour visiting St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India. The church was constructed in 1503 by Portuguese friars and is now the burial place of Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese explorer who led the first ships sailed directly from Europe to India.

Next we will visit Santa Cruz Basilica, one of the largest and most impressive churches in India. Stroll along the street of Fort Kochi to see Chinese fishing nets that were introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan in the 14th century. Kochi fishermen still use the fishing nets to earn their livelihoods. Later transfer to cochin port.

(The Jewish synagogue is closed on Fridays/Saturdays and all Jewish holidays. The Dutch palace is closed on Fridays.)
