This is very famous vintage palace of King Nabakrishna who was a wealthy landlord. Celebration of Durga Puja started from this place and spread to other families. A traveler can see the original and heritage puja celebration in this place.

Located in Pathuriaghata in North Kolkata, this homestead has probably the grandest ‘Puja Corridor’ in the city. The marble corridor, over 80-feet long, and the grand dancing hall (now Khelat Ghosh Memorial Hall) are awesome. One unique feature of the Pujo is the ablution of the Naba Patrika or nine leaves used in the rituals at the house itself. Also there is a tradition of offering homemade sweets to Maa. Visit this Grand Palace to see the grandeur!

The palatial building of Mitras came into existence during the times of Durgacharan Mitra who had multiple businesses including being court jeweler of Nawab Siraj -ud -Daulah. His Nephew Nilmani Mitra continued the legacy. Later the family’s condition declined. but Nilmani Mitra’s grandson Radhakrishna bought back a fortune in the family. It was Radhakrishna who started Durga Puja in 1807. This used to be one of the three top Banedi Pujas of Kolkata along with Jorasnako Dawn Bari and Sova bazar Rajbari. The rituals are interesting and very meticulously followed.

Started in 1855 by Dawaraka Nath Dutta, The Duttas of Thanthania worship “Hara Gouri” idol alias “Shiva Durga”. The Puja is celebrated with great pomp and show till date. Among many rituals observed in this house “Dhuno porano” is the star attraction as a number of married women in unison hold burning Malsas on their palms and heads and pray for the peace and well being of their family members.

Shibkrishna Daw house has been maintained beautifully and has been used for many film shoots. The household Pujo was started by Shibkrishna Daw’s father in 1840 but it was the successful businessman son who added the glitz and glamour to the celebration. It is said that Goddess Durga comes to wear her Jeweleries at the Jorasanko Dawn House. The reason being Gold ornaments in large quantity to decorate the idol with Ornaments of diamonds and emeralds were brought from Europe.

Durga puja of Mallick Family dates back to 15th Century.The Founder of Mallick family Radha Gobinda Mallick settled in Bhowanipur in 1860. Popular Bengali filmstar Ranjit Mallick and her daughter – successful actor Koel Mallick belongs to this family.

Founder of the Dakshineswar Kali Temple and a pillar of strength in the male dominated society, Rani Rashmoni started Durga Puja at her S.N. Banerjee Road residence. The Durga Puja held at 13 Rani Rashmoni Road is the one originally initiated by Rani Rashmoni herself.

At his Beadon street residence, Ram Dulal Dey (Deb Sarkar) started organizing Durga Puja from the year 1770. He was the first Bengali entrepreneur who became a millionaire. After his demise, the Puja was carried on by his sons Asuthosh Dey (Deb Sarkar) and Pramatha Nath Dey (Deb Sarkar), more commonly known as ‘Chatu babu and Latu babu’
