About this activity
Our driver will collect you from your hotel around 7:30-8:30am and travel north traversing across the Crocker range for about 2 hours to the base of Mt. Kinabalu. The mountain stands at 13,435ft (4095 meters) and is the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea. En-route we stop by roadside stalls for a chance to mingle with the native Dusun villagers. Learn more about their life from the produce they sell such as local fruits and handicrafts.

At the Kinabalu Park, enjoy a walk in the mountain garden to learn about the unique plants such as the carnivorous nepenthes, orchids and ferns. Be amazed by the different plant structures that have evolved in enabling them to survive in the tropical rainforest. Proceed for another 45 minutes to the eastern boundary of the park. Here, the montane oak-chestnut forest gives way to the lowland dipterocarp forest.

Trek uphill 30 minutes for an opportunity to witness life in the treetops as you walk along a Canopy walkway located 100 feet above ground level. You will see the number of epiphytes notably the Grammatophyllum Speciosum which is the world’s largest orchid and also known as the Queen of Orchids.

Time permitting, you may opt to dip your feet in the hot springs which is known to be therapeutic for the skin due to its sulphuric content or visit the nearby village reserves to view the largest flower in the world, the Rafflesia which is at your own expense.

Please note that there has been instances the canopy walkway have closed for maintenance. If the walkway closed, we will replace with a visit to the Tropical Garden.

No one else booked this trip on the day my hubby and I did, so it ended up being a private tour. Our tour guide was not only knowledgeable, but also very professional and accommodating. He was able to find out that a few raffalisas were in bloom in the area, and gave us the opportunity to go see them. He provided great insight into the culture of the tribes of the island and their way of life. Highly recommend this trip. Mt. Kinabalu is breathe taking and the trip was well worth the 2 hour drive into the mainland.
