Žabljak - The first Slavic name of this place was Varezina voda, probably due to the strong springs of potable water, around which the settlement was built. Later, it was named Han or originally Anovi, where the commercial caravans were resting. According to tradition, the name Žabljak comes from frogs living in the locality of the Otoka and that every year with their creaking announces the arrival of spring. Žabljak got its official name in 1870, when the end became part of the Montenegrin Reign, and on the same day the construction of the church of Sv.Preobraženija, the school and the captain's house was started. It is a lake of glacial origin and consists essentially of two smaller lakes , Small and Small Lakes, connected by a narrow cloak of only 60 meters wide which separates them at low water levels into two separate lakes. The biggest depth of the Great Lakes is some 26 meters, while Lake Malo is twice as deep. But this is why the Big one has twice the size of the surface and the same smaller volume. The total area of the lake is 0.515km2, which is behind the Plav Lake in the east of Montenegro, the second only the Montenegrin lake in size. There are even 18 lakes, or gory eyes on our Durmitor, as our hosts call them. Lake Zminje is just one of the most beautiful examples of a mountain eye, a lake hidden in the depths of a forest at 1,550 m / n, surrounded by dense fir and fir trees.
