Pass By: Trebinje Old City, Trebinje Bosnia and Herzegovina

Driving to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. When we get to the needy we start a visit to a holiday resort “from which you can see the whole town” – Crkvine, a place that the famous poet and diplomat, Jovan Ducic, chose for his eternal resting place. We will visit Hercegovacka Gracanica, the mausoleum of the poet Jovan Ducic, the gallery of gilded icons and the amphitheater. After touring Crkvine, we will visit the Old Town where you will see the Sahat Kula – a square clock tower, Kastel – built in the eighteenth century, Osman Pasha Mosque from the eighteenth century, the town walls with cannons …

Leaving the Old Town through its main gate – a tunnel leads to the Square where you will see the famous sycamore trees that are over 115 years old, the Town Market, the Catholic Cathedral and fountains with monuments. Then, we will visit the Tvrdos Monastery where St. Basil of Ostrog became a monk. This monastery was built on the foundations of an antique church from the fourth century.

Stop At: Hercegovacka Gracanica, Trebinje Bosnia and Herzegovina

Hercegovačka Gračanica in Trebinje - a temple from 2000 is dedicated to the Holy Virgin. According to the wish of the poet Jovan Dučić, who was born in Trebinjac, whom he expressed in his testament, was built the temple of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Mount Crkvina above Trebinje, in which Ducic was buried. In addition to the temple, which is a faithful copy of the Gracanica monastery in Kosovo and Metohija - many of which are called Hercegovačka Gračanica - within the complex are the bell tower, icon gallery, parish house, amphitheater, church, church library, museum and summer garden restaurant. The temple can be seen from every point in Trebinje and it is the most beautiful sacral building in the whole of Herzegovina. The poet's wish was to be buried in Trebinje, so his remains were transferred from America to Hercegovačka Gračanica in October 2000.

Stop At: Tvrdos Monastery, Trebinje Bosnia and Herzegovina

Speaking of Tvrdoš in otherwise brief reviews, our historians considered it enough to say that it was a monastery "from the Middle Ages" and known as the Trebinje monastery. However, according to the folk tradition which was, in fact, relatively late written, the Treasury monastery was founded by the Holy Constantine and his mother Jelena, and then, after being demolished and deported, became the lord of King Sergei Milutin in the late XIII or early XIV century. The basic restoration in 1509 was carried out by the metropolitan of Trebinje Visarion I.
