About this activity
The Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum is located in the suburbs of Oświęcim, about 60 km to the west of Kracow. This historic landmark is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau (1941-1945) is known across the whole world as a symbol of Nazi genocide and terror. During the Second World War, it was the biggest Nazi concentration camp in which over one million people died, mostly Jews. After the war, Polish authorities converted the camp into a museum dedicated to the memory of the Nazi victims.

Guests can be collected from a hotel between 8:50 and 9:10am (details by e-mail) or from a central meeting point at 9am and will return to central Krakow at around 3:30-4pm. The museum is closed on the following dates: 1st of January, first day of Easter, 16th of April and 25th of December.

We visited on 1 September 2019, exactly 80 years to the day that Germany invaded Poland. That may be why the crowds of people I had been warned about were not there. As a result we had the time to look at the evidence of the pure evil that existed in that place and many others. Our brilliant guide Margarite from Super Cracow Tours was dignified, so knowledgeable and unquestionably passionate about the facts. Hanging on to her every word describing the horror, her calm intelligence helped me to take in the information. And I have thought about that place every day since. No I don't want to ever go there again. But i urge everyone to go once. And if you are lucky enough to get Margarite to guide you it will be unforgettable for all the right and wrong reasons.

*******My rating is for the museum and NOT the tour guide******** My visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau was everything I expected and more, the sheer size of Birkenau blew my mind! I wish however I could say the same for the tour guide, whom was quite disappointing. I can understand time constraints and all but rushing people through a tour and/or leaving half the group behind is beyond disappointing. Hope others have a better experience than I. If I had a chance to do this all over I would make the visit on my own as I hardly benefited from the guide other than a ride to/from.

This is a sad and memorable place. It is hard to imagine the cruelty and suffering people suffered. It was very much brought to life by our excellent guide. We should never forget this part of history.

Very well organized. Picked up and dropped off from hotel that wasn't in city centre. The while trip was well organized with two different concentration camps to visit and a full guided tour.

Well worth visit, a surreal place to come. I did not realise how large the camp is. Our guide was very knowledgeable the whole tour lasted around 4 and a bit hours. Take water as it can get very warm in poland especially in June. Wear sensible shoe as there are uneven areas and a lot of walking. Respect the area as there are places where you cannot take photographs. There are a a couple of refreshment areas selfing pizzas and burgers etc. Toilet break costs 2plz. A somber place to visit but history wise is well worth a trip.

Visiting krakow we thought it is a must to visit aushwich. We knew it was going to be eye opening. Firstly the pick up was from our hotel and Filip was amazing. He gave a good account of how the tour would be. He explained the history of Aushwich in better detail than what I’d read up on it. He was very good and I would recommend filip again. The tour gave us a better understanding of Aushwich and it was hard to comprehend but it is history and we felt the visit was a must.

Our tour guide was fantastic and the tour itself was very well done and organized. I learned more than I thought I would, even though it was extremely hard to hear. Everyone needs to experience this and I highly recommend this tour.

I will just get to the point since Everyone else writes the same thing but never mention these two . Take a unbrella or sunhat If you plan to travel in summer . Auschwitz birkaneu Is a long walking strip outside in glazing sun. A carry bag not larger than a a 4 size paper . You are not allowed to take larger inside . The tourist guide in bus told us once we reached there . Never mentioned in their website .
