Used Viator for visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau with private taxi transfer and return. Our driver Peter looked after all day and showed us to the meet points and explained exactly would occur. Reserving the Private Transport was definitely worth the small extra charge. This gave us more time with a knowledgeable guide and, of course, greater comfort. During the drive from Karkow to Auschwitz and back, our educated guide was happy to answer our questions. The tours of Aushwitz and Birkenau were, as expected, extremely depressing. Our guide provided a highly informative tour. A practical and useful feature of the tour was that they provided headsets for all and this allowed us to hear every word of our tour guide. Auschwitz has been well-maintained so that visitors can tour the facilities for years into the future. This will allow those born after the last Holocaust survivor has passed to know the horrific story. We were able to see all aspects of the grounds, including the gas chambers, suitcases left by those who were murdered, and additional evidence of the Holocaust. Everything about the stories we heard was indescribably awful but this is a place that all should visit. The full tour was well-presented and well-managed. Viator did an excellent job will all arrangements.
Booked the tour with KrakowDirect, for pick-up from our hotel in central Krakow. Collection was on time, vehicle was spotless, driver friendly and courteous. Took us out to Auschwitz about 1 hour to the west of Krakow and handed us over to a very knowledgeable professional guide for the 4 hour tour of Auschwitz and Birkenau. Although our transport was private, we were attached to a large group of 25 or so who had arrived in shared transport, also with the the same company KrakowDirect. Worthwhile taking a sandwich as you only get a 15 minute or so break between finishing the tour of Auschwitz and restarting the tour at Birkenau, about 3 km away. At the end of the tour, the driver was waiting to take us back to our hotel. We used KrakowDirect four times during our trip, and they were always on-time, with immaculate vehicles and courteous well-spoken drivers.
