Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum from Kraków: Afternoon Tour

Meet your coach at the bus park at 11 Powiśle Street (ul. Powiśle 11) opposite the Sheraton Grand Hotel at 3:15pm for the journey to Oświęcim, 31 miles (50 kilometres) west of Kraków, where Auschwitz concentration camp is located.

From early 1942 until late 1944, an estimated 1.3 million people were sent to Auschwitz, of whom at least 1.1 million died. Most of them were Jews from German-occupied Europe, but victims also included Polish people, gypsies, and prisoners of war.

After watching a documentary film you will have a guided tour of the Auschwitz I camp, where the Nazis established the first camp for men and women. It was where the Nazis first experimented with killing using the pesticide Zyklon B, the first mass transports of Jews were murdered, the first criminal experiments on prisoners, and where the majority of executions by shooting were carried out. 

Continue to Auschwitz's Birkenau camp, the largest concentration camp where in 1944 there were over 100,000 prisoners in 300 primitive, mostly wooden barracks. The 200-hectare site still contains the ruins of Nazi gas chambers.

As well as a guide, you will be provided with headphones to follow an audio tour in English or Spanish. At the end of the tour the coach will take you back to the original meeting point in Kraków, where the tour ends at approximately 10:15pm.
