If you have not been, you have to go it's the only way history will be remembered and the atrocities of 1 man
A very moving and insightful tour of Auschwitz and Birkenau. A very knowledgeable and respectful guide.
I can't put my finger on what the tour lacks to transport you back to what has been written about Auschwitz. The lawns are a lush green so it is hard to visualise what it used to look like... As a result, it is unfortunate that the tragedy that millions perished within those gates is not as potent as the realization that someone actually took the time to plan and execute the building of the experimental blocks, gas chambers, crematoria, etc. Miklos Nyszli's book - I was Doctor Mengele's Assistant - is more telling of the tragedy than the tour itself. Highly recommended read.
Great trip. Our driver Bartek picked us up at our hotel around 9 and it is about a 2.5 hour drive to reach Auschwitz. Bartek will then set you up with the tour guides at Auschwitz and they will give a great account of what happened at the camp. After Auschwitz 1, Bartek will have a drink and a sandwich before driving you over to Birkenau for the 2nd part of the tour before driving back to Wroclaw for around 6pm. Very enjoyable trip.
