Stop At: Rynek Underground, Rynek Glowny 1, Krakow Poland
The Krakow Undergrounds Museum on the Market Square, opened in 2010, is a kind of archaeological park where you can observe pictures of the life of a large, bustling medieval city. With the help of modern technology, the authors of the project created the ideal illusion of a lively medieval city.
At a depth of several metres below the surface of the Main Market Square, from the Cloth Hall to St Mary’s Church, awaits a true treasure trove of information on Kraków’s past. In 4000-square-meters underground there are streets and stands of thousands years old (since first buildings of the Old Town), and there is atmosphere of the market square - you can hear merchants talking and carts creaking. Scales, coins, clothes, jeweleries and even human remains - all the artefacts were found during the excavations.
Walk into the depths of Krakow on a 1.5-hour guided tour of Rynek Underground Museum accompanied by a professional English-speaking guide, and discover the medieval market stalls and the city’s rich history.
