About this activity
Let us propose a 3-hour tour to explore the district of Kazimierz, Krakow’s arty neighborhood characterized by lovely small streets and trendy cafés. This is an area comprised of buildings that witnessed Krakow’s Holocaust.

Before World War II, Jewish culture flourished in this neighborhood for centuries. Steven Spielberg filmed scenes from his Oscar award winning-movie Schindler’s List here.

You’ll continue on to the district of Podgórze to see Oskar Schindler's factory (entrance fee not included) and the remnants of the World War II ghetto that have survived.

In Kazimierz you’ll visit Wolnica Square, the former Jewish district with its synagogues, and the old meat market. In Podgórze district you’ll see the main square of the former ghetto, the remains of the ghetto wall, and Oscar Schindler's factory building.

Afterwards you’ll have time for a half-hour coffee break to discuss the rebirth of the Jewish quarter, and hear about local legends and customs.

The information was great, but the guide spoke very softly and was very hard to hear. He spent the vast majority of the time just walking us from place to place without any interaction with the group between stops. He smoked while we walked, and since he was in front of us, that meant that we had smoke blown into our faces for most of the tour. We also had to wait while he made a stop at a bank machine. If this was the kind of tour that included a snack paid for by the guide, I would understand. But that was not the case, and I don't think paying customers should have to stand around especially in winter while the tour guide does an errand. Still, the information itself was interesting and, with a better guide, this could be a great tour.
