Itinerary

Day 1: Phnom Penh to Stung Treng by private transfer.

Stop At: Phnom Penh, Phnom Penh
Our driver will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am. Then the day starts with a transfer to Stung Treng (stopping for lunch in Kratie), having arrived at Stung Treng, our expert friendly fishing guide will welcome you at your arrival at the hotel. Overnight at an excellent riverside hotel.

Day 2: Fishing Near Koh Preah.

Stop At: Stung Treng, Stung Treng, Stung Treng Province
Early this morning we transfer you to Sre Krosang before a sort boat journey to Koh Preah for a full day fishing for Mekong Catfish and other species. The reservoir’s Giant catfish population is big, and numerous catches by our clients have been well over the 5 kg mark, the biggest catches being weighted on certified scales at 250 kg. We will also follow local fishermen, join their fishing style, and learn their unique catfish catching technic. Later in the afternoon, take a walk, looking around for the best place for Mekong softshell turtles and searching for bird’s nesting sites. We will spend the rest of the day fishing for the giant catfish. During nesting season (October-February), a night excursion to see the nesting of the giant turtles is optional and arranged locally.

Day 3: Fishing Around Koh Samseb.

Stop At: Stung Treng, Stung Treng, Stung Treng Province
We will awake to the sounds of nature surrounding and enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the Mekong River. Having breakfast and observe the local fisherman around the area. Afterward, we take the boat down to the Koh Samseb area where we will fish most of the day over a 20 kilometer stretch of the river where, with some patience, it is possible to catch some very large fish. This is a part of the river known for numerous fish species that are found nowhere else and prized for their quality and size. Then, we cross over to dock at Koh Khne commune and get transferred to we go to Kampi, one of the many deep pools where the rare freshwater Irrawaddy river dolphins gather to feed. We board a local boat and cruise out into the mighty Mekong for a chance to encounter with gentle creatures. Viewing is almost guaranteed, although it is easier to see the dolphins in the shallower waters of the dry season, than in the swollen river of the wet season. Kratie to check into a comfortable hotel for the night.

Day 4: Private Transfer back to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap

Stop At: Kratie, Kratie, Kratie Province
After morning breakfast, it is time to make your return journey back to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, you can choose. Travel south, back through the old river port of Chhlong, home to some of the best examples of French colonial architecture in the country. Have lunch at stops on the road, returning to your Phnom Penh/Siem Reap hotel between 2 and 5 pm, depending on weather and traffic.
