The fisherman will then take you to his community which is a floating village. Experience a way of life that is shaped by the lake they live on and little has changed in generations. Come to understand the challenges faced in daily life and how important it is to have visitors come and have this unique experience.

After enjoying morning within the ocal community we explore the floating village which will give you an insight into this unique way of life.

Traditional Lunch

The local community will provide a traditional Khmer lunch and the unique setting and welcoming hosts will make you feel relaxed and right at home.

Tonle Sap Exploration

We leave the floating village behind and head out to explore this great lake. Depending on the time of year and amount of rain will dictate where we explore but this great waterway is home to a large number birds and unique landscapes.

Five provinces circle the area of Tonle Sap Lake, more than three million people inhabit around the bank of the Lake and 90% of them earn a living by catching fish and agriculture.

The Lake is the largest fresh water in South East Asia. Its dimension changes depending on the monsoon and dry season. During raining season from June to October, the lake is filled by water flowing from the Mekong with 14 meters in depth and expands the surface to 10,000 square Kilometers. In dry season from November to May its size diminishes to about 3,000 square kilometers with two meters in depth and water flows out from the Lake to the Mekong. The flooded forest surrounding the edge of the lake is provides shelter and is vital for the natural breeding of all kinds of fish species.

This lake is recognised for its biodiversity with over 300 species of fresh water fish, as well as snakes, crocodiles, tortoises, turtles and otters. More than 100 varieties water birds including storks and pelicans call this great lake home.

The Lake is also an important commercial resource, providing more than half of the fish consumed in Cambodia.
