Taking us to a shaded area filled with sawdust mounts, he explained how mushroom farmers cultivate the fungi. Apart from growing it in a damp environment, there is a formula to making the enriched soil, along with a particular way to pack and store them in greenhouses.

Every greenhouse is reserved for different kinds of mushrooms. According to Tan, there are 6 types of mushrooms cultivated in the farm, including the white oyster mushroom, grey oyster mushroom, lingzhi and, the newest addition of the lot, the rare susu harimau.

We were each given a mushroom growing pack to bring home, which can be kept in damp places like a bathroom and harvested about 5 to 8 times.

Aun Tong Sdn Bhd was founded in 1933 in Taiping, Perak. Its founder, Mr. Tiah Ee Mooi has made his coffee a popular drink among the locals, with his signatured product “Antong” remains a favorite brew among coffee lovers, both local and abroad.

After half a century, Antong Sdn Bhd has grown from strength to strength developing into a modern coffee roaster. Researching the best business practice, Antong is capable of producing 10 tons of roasted coffee beans per day.

Today, after 80 years in the coffee trade, Antong has perfected the art of coffee roasting to accommodate customers’ expectations and satisfy multiple demands.

The Perak Museum is a public museum located at the junction of Jalan Muzium and Jalan Taming Sari in Taiping, Perak, Malaysia. It is the oldest museum in Malaysia and highlights the history British empire-ship of the state Perak.

(photo stop) During the era of British rule and until the arrival of the Japanese in 1942, penal institutions were the responsibility of the individual states' governments with their respective regulations. In the Straits Settlements, a Superintendent based in Singapore, acted as the supervisor and inspected the institutions under his jurisdiction.

The Straits Settlements were the earliest to build their own prisons while the Federated Malay States did so only after the British set up a responsible department. The Taiping Prison, better known as the Taiping Gaol, the largest at the time, was built in 1879. Prisons were built with the main purpose of bringing suffering to the inmates in the hope that this would deter people from committing crimes.

In 1881, Sikh warders were brought in to assist Malay warders while vocational instructors from Hong Kong were used in an effort to introduce trades to the prisons. Among the earliest of these were rock breaking and carpentry. An attempt was made to categorize the inmates in 1882, then in 1889 European warders were appointed at some prisons.

The All Saints Church is a church in Taiping, Larut, Matang and Selama District, Perak, Malaysia. It was the first church in the Federated Malay States, founded in 1886. Located on Taming Sari main road, the church sits in the outskirts of Taiping.

The Taiping War Cemetery is the final resting place for Allied personnel who were killed during World War II, particularly the Malayan Campaign and the Japanese occupation of Malaya. Servicemen who died after the war or during their posting in northern Malaya prior to the Malayan Emergency are also interred here.
