Stop At: The Temple of Artemis, Selcuk Turkey

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus located on the western coast of Asia Minor (modern Turkey) was built in the 6th century BCE, and such was its tremendous size, double the dimensions of other Greek temples including the Parthenon, that it was soon regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Ancient City of Ephesus, Selcuk 35920 Turkey

he ancient city of Ephesus (Ephesos) takes you on an unforgettable journey through history; etched on minds as the home of the Blessed Virgin Mary, stretching back to the Neolithic period and inhabited in the greatest period of the Roman Empire. This ancient city was valued for a long time as a harbour town, and due to the excavations which have uncovered new sections and artefacts every year, the city continues to surprise its visitors and to maintain its historical value. Many famous classical philosophers, who are still read today, such as Heraclitus, lived in the scientific, artistic and cultural city of Ephesus. The ancient city of Ephesus, and especially its Temple of Artemis, one of the first temples, is recognised as one of the seven wonders of the world and since 2015 it has been included in the ‘World Heritage List’. Over the years the site has moved, and it is now spread over an area of 8kms. This breath-taking city attracts approximately 1.5 million tourists annually. It is believed that the Bible was written here and that the Virgin Mary died here, which gives it a special significance for Christians.

Stop At: Meryemana (The Virgin Mary's House), Selcuk 35100 Turkey

The House of the Virgin Mary (or Meryem Ana Evi in Turkish) is a place where, according to the beliefs of many people Mary, the mother of Jesus, spent the last years of her life. She was supposed to arrive at Ephesus together with St. John and lived there in the years 37-45 CE until her Assumption (according to Catholic doctrine) or Dormition (according to Orthodox belief).

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Isa Bey Mosque, Selcuk Turkey

Isa Bey Mosque was built in 1375 near the ancient city of Ephesus in what is today Selcuk, Turkey. Parts of the mosque were built using stones and columns from the ruins of Ephesus and the Temple of Artemis. It was designed asymmetrically instead of a more traditional symmetric layout and includes a large courtyard. The mosque uses a Selcuk style of architecture rather than the Ottoman style that was used more often in later years.

This was a great tour and our guide was great with historical info. The only thing we didn't like was when they took us to the leather coat factory and the ceramic store. I think this was totally unnecessary and no one bought anything. This should have been explained before we booked the tour.

Ephesus visit is not to be missed opportunity. It is probably the best preserved Roman ruins anywhere outside Rome. It was interesting to visit Mother Mary's house and the archeological museum in Selkuk. However our tour guide Orkan was a little disappointing as he would stand in a shade, give us an overview and tell us to go see sites ourselves, while other guides would walk with their clients and explain significance of the sites.

We were met at the cruise dock by Okrom out tour guide for a wonderful four hours. He is a most professional person, driving us couple, mid 60's safely to Ephesus and back. On the drive to Ephesus, he provided wonderful information on Turkey, past and present, and on the local area that we were visiting. At Ephesus, he guided through the site for about an hour, and then, at our request, we had another 90 minutes on our own to fully explore the site and absorb the wonderful atmosphere there. Being with a small group, we were able to see so much more than the larger tour groups, and at our request, we were able to stay longer and not visit a carpet factory - which we had done on a previous tour to Ephesus. Okron was a very helpful, professional, and pleasant tour guide. We would not hesitate in recommending him / or the company for a great tour at a great value.

Wonderful tour of Ephasus made even better by our fabulous young guide, Begum. She was such a good conversationalist, and her knowledge was very impressive. Such a pleasant young lady, and a credit to your organisation and Turkey!

Great day out, we were guided by Rafir and were amazed at the depth of knowledge he had. Throughout he was genuinely friendly and attentive to our needs, taking us to additional places. I would definitely recommend this trip.
