Tirta Empul means Holy Spring in Balinese. The temple compound consists of a petirtaan or bathing structure, famous for its holy spring water, where Balinese Hindus go to for ritual purification. The temple pond has a spring which gives out fresh water regularly, which Balinese Hindus consider to be holy or amritha. In the Temple you can see how Balinese people doing a holy blessing.

Stop At: Elephant Cave Ubud, Jl. Raya Goa Gajah Desa Bedulu, Ubud 80581 Indonesia

This temple is marked by menacing faces carved in stone - whose purpose is considered to ward off evil spirits. The main figure was once considered an elephant, then the nickname of Elephant Cave. Other sources state that it is named the stone statue of the Hindu God Ganesh (marked by having an elephant head) located inside the temple. This site is mentioned in the Javanese poem Desawarnana written in 1365.
