Kinkaku, a pagoda made to house the sacred relics of the Buddha, has given this temple the popular name of Kinkaku-ji (Temple of the Golden Pavilion). This complex, whose gardens and architecture focused around a central Golden Pavilion, was said to evoke paradise on earth. And the view of Kinkaku which is reflected in the Kyoko-chi (Mirror Pond) is very beautiful. I enjoyed the trip. Our tour guide jad good wnglish and everything moved nicely on time. The instructions for where to meet for lunch were very unclear but other than that it was good.
This is a very good English tour. It ran smoothly and just the right amount and variety of sights. Our tour guide was very experienced. I would definitely recommend taking this tour that covers the highlights of Kyoto and Nara. Good value.
Trip was good; we bought the package including chicken sukiyaki lunch. Just enough time to go around spots of attraction.
I signed up for this tour as it gave me 3 top destinations in the Kyoto area: Arashiyama Forest, Golden Pavilion Temple, and Nara Temple, with a buffet lunch thrown in as well. The pick-up point at OCAT building was also convenient for me as my hotel was located next to it. The price of the tour was reasonable and we were given the benefit of having 2 tour guides: 1 English speaking and the other Chinese. My fellow passengers were all Asians: from Korea, China and SE Asia. The lunch was excellent with the dining room having a sweeping panoramic view of the Arishiyama Bridge. With the cherry trees at full blossom, it was a really a nice view. We wish we were given more time in the Sagano Bamboo Forest, but as we have 2 more destinations to cover, time spent in this area was rather limited. But it was still a productive hour spent here. Next stop was Golden Pavilion Temple and lots of photo opportunities here. We didn't enter the Temple itself as it seems to be located at the other end of the lake. Last stop was the famed Nara Temple with those deers that try to entice you to give them food by displaying some neck movements akin to a bow. All in all, definitely a worthwhile investment.
The tour fulfilled our requirements of visiting the destination sites we wanted to see, however the tour guide always shot off like a rocket, and we barely spent any time at the Arashiyama bamboo forest. Also, being able to understand both english and mandarin chinese, I noticed that the chinese speaking guide did not actually translate what the main english speaking guide said, and so a lot of the historical blurbs given by the english speaking guide were simply skipped by the chinese guide.
Requested for an English speaking guide but due to lack of quorum, they gave us a Chinese/Korean guide! Not really a guided tour, more of the guide leading you to the place and you're on your own. Not much explanation of the places in the tour. Other than these few 'grouses', the rest are as per the itinerary - places visited and buffet lunch excellent!
