About this activity
Day 1 Kyoto: You will make your own way to the starting hotel in Kyoto and check in. Meet your new hiking buddies and tour guide at 6 pm in the lobby. You will go out for the first group dinner (optional). Day 2 Kyoto Free day: Today is a free day to explore the ancient capital of Kyoto. Your tour guide will give you information and directions for the day. Day 3 Kyoto to Tsumago: We will travel to Tsumago by bullet train and bus. We will then start an enjoyable walk on the Nakasendo ancient highway from Magome and finish in Otsumago after enjoying a few waterfalls and wooded areas (approx 2.5 hours) We will finish with a delicious local meal at the accommodation. Day 4 Tsumago to Kamikochi: This morning, we will transfer by trains and bus to Kamikochi. We then will start with a gentle walk to Yarisawa through a pine and birch forest. After we enter the Yarisawa Valley, the trails will get steeper and rockier (approx 4 hour walk) Day 5 Climb Mt Yari (3180m): Today, we will continue the hike on Mt. Yari. This is a challenging hike (approx 6-8 hours). There will be some sections of rocks, boulders and snowfields to cross. At the summit, you will be rewarded with spectacular views including Mt. Fuji! Day 6 Descend to Kamikochi: Wake up early and enjoy the brilliant views of the valleys. We will descend to Kamikochi on down steep hills this morning (approx 8-10hours) and then transfer to Matsumoto. Day 7 Matsumoto to Kawaguchiko: Matsumoto castle visit is an option this morning. In the afternoon, we will transfer to Kawaguchiko, next to Mt. Fuji. Day 8 Climbing Mt. Fuji to the 8th station: We will climb the highest mountain in Japan (3776m). We start hiking from the 5th station to a mountain hut where we will stay tonight (approx 5 hours). As we climb higher, it will get very steep and rocky. Day 9 Sunrise on the top of Mt. Fuji: We will leave our hut very early in the morning to capture the sunrise at the summit. We will get ready for the sunrise together with many local climbers. After celebrating our success of climbing Mt. Fuji, we will descend back to the Fifth Station. Day 10 Kawaguchiko Free day: Today is a free day to explore the Kawaguchiko area. Your tour guide will give you information and directions for the day. It’s also a chance to just relax around Lake Kawaguchi or enjoy the spectacular view of Mt. Fuji from the top of Mt. Kachikachi. Day 11 Kawaguchiko to Tokyo: We will transfer to Tokyo this morning by trains. Tokyo has many sites and attractions enough to entertain you for several days. Day 12 Tokyo: Today is a free day to explore the city. Your tour guide will give you information and directions for the day. We will have the last group dinner and celebrate the end of the tour (meal expense not included) Day 13 Departure day: The tour will finish after breakfast.You can checkout at your convenience in the morning.

  • Twin share room arrangement
  • Public bathrooms at ryokan
  • No privacy in mountain huts, and no shower/bathing facilities
  • Only use of environmentally friendly products permitted at mountain huts
  • Difficulty to provide for people with special food restrictions (esp at mountain huts)
  • Typhoons and weather can affect itinerary
  • Climbing the last bit of the summit of Mt. Yari is with ladders and very steep and only advanced climbers are available. You have a choice to wait at a hut
  • This tour/activity will have a maximum of 16 travelers
