Kids Tour of Kyoto
1 day
About this activity
One of the first things that come to mind when thinking about Japan is often its fighting sports or martial arts, so naturally, we have included a movie village experience today where many samurai dramas are filmed. There are up to 200 films shot here per year and many different sets that depict past ages of the country.
As we explore the village, it is common to see ninjas, or samurais exploring the streets, so then entire fam should keep their eyes peeled for them! Even if you are not the biggest fan of samurai movies, the village is still great fun and will give the entire family a good story to tell about Japan.
Once you are in the park, children, as well as adults, can get creative and dress up as a ninja or a geisha, and even a traditional firefighter called a Hikeshi. You'll notice more activities available throughout the park as you walk such as sword fighting classes, ninja classrooms, fighting shows, and much more
Once you have returned your samurai or geisha gear, you and the family will make your way to Monkey Park. Another great spot for the entire family as it is hard not to enjoy cute monkeys surrounding you. Monkey Park is home to Japanese Macaques, often known as Snow Monkeys. There is a great hiking trail at the park that offers an incredible view of Kyoto, again, while you are surrounded by monkeys, deer, and many different species of birds in the trees.
Autumn and Spring are especially beautiful times to visit the park as the leaves are turning or the cherry blossoms are coming up.
From the park, we can enjoy a little stroll together along the river. Stopping to enjoy a meal at an exclusive eel restaurant along the way is optional today. The restaurant is in the Michelin guide and has been around for almost 50 years - it is very common amongst the locals.
